This trip is open to sophomores, juniors and graduate students of any major, provided you have a strong academic background and interest in government affairs, public policy, law or strategic communications. To be eligible for a summer externship with Facebook DC, you must be returning to school in Fall 2014 (May 2014 graduates and alumni are not eligible unless they plan to pursue further education starting next fall).

Facebook DC is currently recruiting for its summer externship program (a paid, full-time opportunity during Summer 2014). In particular, Facebook DC seeks diverse, high achieving students of all majors. Facebook DC helps to inform users, the media, partners, employees and other stakeholders about Facebook’s products and business. Working with policymakers at the international federal, and state levels, the team handles legislative and regulatory matters, participates in domestic and international policy discussions and leads the company’s interactions with consumer and other non-governmental organizations.

Job Summary:
The Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA) seeks a detail-oriented, organized, and highly motivated intern to support its Research Department. The intern will assist with literature searches, data analysis, survey development, and other research-related activities. The goal of the internship is to promote an interest to pursue a career conducting health policy or education research in the non-profit sector.

Job Responsibilities:
· Assist with the collection, entry, and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, including constructing figures and tables.
· Assist with survey development and implementation (e.g., building surveys, tracking response rates, sending reminders).
· Conduct literature reviews and background research on issues relevant to PA education.
· Draft, edit, and review department work products (e.g., proposals, fact sheets, and presentations).
· Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
· College student of junior or senior standing who is currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in psychology, statistics, health sciences, or related field; enrollment in a master’s degree program preferred.
· At least two courses in research methods and statistics.
· Exceptional attention to detail and organization skills.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines, take initiative, and work well in a team environment.
· Proficiency in MS Office, Excel required.
· Knowledge of Qualtrics online survey software and SPSS experience preferred.

This is a part-time internship from January to May 2014. Stipend is available.

Dr. Jonathan Beier is looking for undergraduate research assistants to start training immediately for WINTER 2014 and work for 2 semesters or longer in the lab.

Study Descriptions:
Students will serve as research assistants for Dr. Jonathan Beier. The lab is new as of the summer of 2012, and studies are just starting to pick up. Dr. Beier’s lab investigates social and cognitive development in young children, but also conducts research with adults in order to examine these processes in their mature form. The lab is interested in a range of phenomena, including the understanding of other people’s mental states and social relationships. The lab employs a variety of procedures, but current studies mostly utilize eye-tracking and active behavioral measures.

Responsibilities:
Research assistants will attend lab meetings and help with running studies and data collection, recruiting parents and children for studies, and data entry. Depending on students’ interests and involvement, there may be opportunities to code and analyze data, conduct literature reviews, and more!

Genetics Research Trainee with NIH! Great post-bac opportunity for recent or up and coming grad!

Genetics Research Trainee
National Institutes of Health, ClinSeq Project

Description:
The ClinSeq® project is a cutting edge study being conducted at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to pilot the use of a new type of genetic testing called whole exome sequencing. Through our piloting, we hope to learn more about the informatics, laboratory, medical and genetic counseling challenges associated with such large-scale genetic testing. Each spring, we hire one person through the Intramural Research Training Award (IRTA) program to join our team. This person gains a wealth of clinical and research experience over the course of a 1- or 2-year appointment, as well as the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clinical and research professionals, such as nurse practitioners, genetic counselors, geneticists and molecular biologists.

Responsibilities:
Recruiting, verbally consenting and scheduling new participants in the program
Summarizing the results of clinical testing completed at each participant’s enrollment visit (including blood work, EKG, echocardiogram and CT scan) into a clinical letter under the supervision of our nurse practitioner
Maintaining electronic and paper records of study participation and data collection
Assisting social and behavioral researchers with various aspects of study design and implementation including: literature reviews, participant recruitment, and data collection
Participating in weekly group meetings and conferences
Assisting with the publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals
Carrying out other administrative tasks related to the study as requested by study staff

Qualifications:
Must have received their bachelor’s degree less than two years prior to the date they begin the program
Must be a US citizen or permanent resident
Must intend to apply to graduate or professional school during their time in the program
Ideally has an interest in pursuing a career in genetics, such as becoming a genetic counselor or geneticist, or in the social sciences.

Description: 

We seek a Research Coordinator to work full-time on a longitudinal clinical research project. This work is conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Fort Belvoir, VA. The research project, directed by Dr. Connie Duncan, involves assessment of brain structure and function in injured Service Members (with mild traumatic brain injury [TBI] or other injuries but no TBI). Subjects are followed over time to evaluate clinical outcome, with an emphasis on posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), as well as post-concussion symptoms, headache, emotional distress, and quality of life. Assessments include event-related brain potentials, neuroimaging, and neurocognitive and neurological tasks. Clinical interviews and self-report measures are also administered.
Responsibilities:

Subject recruitment and consent (establishing and maintaining contacts with clinical services, giving in-service presentations, developing and implementing plans to meet project goals, tracking patient flow, and recruiting and consent interviews)
- Tracking and managing the flow of subject scheduling and testing, scheduling as needed, and coordinating schedules with clinicians
- Subject testing, including clinical interviews, electrophysiological assessments, neurological and neurocognitive evaluations
- Maintaining patient records and databases, including data entry and data quality assurance
- Supervision of staff
- Administrative procedures, e.g., budgeting, purchasing, hiring
- Preparing amendments, submissions, and continuing reviews for IRBs
- Tracking and reporting on recruitment, study progress, and patient events to funding bodies of main clinical trial and affiliated sub-studies
- Maintaining contact with staff of other TBI studies and clinical providers

Requirements:
-Excellent  academic record and research experience
-English Fluency
-Master's or Doctoral degree (or equivalent experience)
-Reliable transportation and valid driver's license 
-U.S. Citizenship
-Previous experience with subject recruiting, institutional review boards, funding agencies, and regulatory procedures, EEG/ERP recording, Microsoft Office, and Statistical packages (e.g., SPSS) is highly desirable
-Demonstrated interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills which are required to work successfully with Co-Investigators, Multi-Disciplinary TBI and PTSD evaluation and treatment teams, research assistants, and research subjects.
-Some weekend work and flexible scheduling may be needed
-Flexible scheduling needed

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic, patient, well-organized, responsible, and detail-oriented. S/he will have a can-do attitude, be good at multitasking, and possess outstanding problem-solving skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a range of people in a variety of capacities is a must.

Peer Mentors needed for The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences!

Description:
BSOS Peer Mentors are recruiting for the Spring 2014 semester.  The Peer Mentor Program is a component of the student services offered by the BSOS Advising Center. The primary role of Peer Mentors is to teach the BSOS Graduation Planning workshops each semester and conduct various presentations in BSOS UNIV100 sections.

Through the services they provided to fellow students, Peer Mentors gain leadership, presentation, and public speaking skills. In preparation for their required tasks, all Peer Mentors are expected to attend weekly class sessions and serve for at least two semesters. Students will earn 1 academic credit after successful completion of each semester.

Requirements:
To be eligible for BSOS Peer Mentors, the following criteria must be met:
  • Primary major must be in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences
  • Must be a BSOS major for a minimum of 2 semesters
  • Sophomore, junior, or senior standing with intentions to return for Spring 2014
  • At least a 2.5 GPA within major
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5+ (Required Submission of Unofficial Transcript)
  • Must be in good judicial/academic standing

-One after school hour per week

This program is offered at different sites on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday afternoon. The children are referred by their teacher, school counselor, or child's parents and tend to need help academically and/or socially (need a friend/encouragement). The program runs October through May.

The Prevention & Early Adversity Research Lab (PEARL) is seeking undergraduate research assistants for the spring semester. The lab is currently conducting several different research studies, including: • A parenting intervention with Latino families with infants and toddlers • A rural home-visiting literacy skills intervention • A study of high-risk African American pregnant women and their infants PEARL Research Assistants will participate in data collection, analysis, and interpretation. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in psychology, human development, intervention science, family science, community health, or related fields. Students will get exposure to research issues pertaining to child development, early childhood, families, parenting, mothers, literacy, toxic stress, prevention, intervention, environmental risk, African American families, and Latino families.

Responsibilities:
-Data collection, analysis, and interpretation
-10 hours per week

Qualifications:
-Interest in learning about families and children vulnerable to environmental risks
-Experience with diverse cultural and family practices, especially with African American or Latino families
-Spanish language proficiency preferred, but not required
