Participants will be paid $6 for agreeing to participate, and may earn up to a maximum of an additional $50 based on how they play the game. Most participants generally earn between an additional $20 and $30. The experiment will take no more than 45 minutes to complete, and participants will be paid in cash at the end. Fall Bilingual Research Assistant positions with the Family Involvement Lab!

The Family Involvement Laboratory IS LOOKING FOR BILINGUAL (Spanish/English) UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTS for the fall (3 Credits).

Students will serve as research assistants for the Family Involvement Lab, which is currently conducting a study on Latino immigrant mothers, fathers, & children. The goal of the study is to understand how mothers’ & fathers' values, goals, & beliefs influence their children’s social skills & academic competencies.

Research assistants will code mother-child and father-child play and reading interactions, conduct short literature reviews; participate in data collection; recruit parents; schedule visits; & data entry. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in pursuing graduate work in the social sciences. Depending on interest & skill-level, there will be opportunities to write honors theses and participate in papers for publication.

The MUSC Hearing Research Program at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is searching for a Lab Manager who will work on NIH supported projects focused on age-related changes in speech recognition and methods for multi-site dyslexia studies. Community Hospice is committed to providing quality end-of-life care for patients in the advanced stages of life-limiting illness, ensuring that they live in comfort and with dignity. Our volunteers play a very important and valued role in the care of our patients.

Below are several areas in which one may choose to provide volunteer assistance. [Note that volunteer experiences can be excellent learning experiences for first year students who don't yet qualify to earn academic credit for internships, as well for students whose schedules don't permit the time commitment required for many internships.]

HOME CARE VOLUNTEER: Provide non-medical support through companionship and friendly visits to patients and caregivers in their home or long term care facility. Visit may consist of reading, assisting with letter writing, light preparation of meals, helping families with limited shopping and errands, listening to a patient share their thought, or just being there to hold a hand.

INPATIENT UNIT VOLUNTEER (IPU): Provide non-medical support services to patients in the IPU and their families to include: companionship, sitting with actively dying patients, providing emotional support, assisting by serving patient's meals, changing water in pitchers, and assisting in taking patients outside and around the facility. IPU volunteers also assist with front desk duties, to include answering the phone and greeting visitors.

HOUR VOLUNTEER: Provides support and a caring presence for hospice patients and their families when a patient is at the very end of life. This role would be supplemental to the Nurse, Social Worker, Chaplain, or other hospice professionals attending a patient. Requires advanced training.

ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER: Provide clerical assistance to the hospice staff, including answering phones and dispatching calls from families to the appropriate nurse or staff member, filing, assisting with mailings, organizing medical supplies, assembling administrative packets and other tasks on an as-needed basis.

QUALITY ASSURANCE VOLUNTEER: Makes calls to patients and/or family members to follow up on their care and assist in addressing any questions or concerns.

BEREAVEMENT VOLUNTEER: Makes follow up calls to family members of patients who have died. (Requires advanced training).

These opportunities are ongoing and located in Washington DC and Prince George County. Training will occur on September 25th, 26th, and 27th.

Community Family Life Services seeks an energetic and committed Programs Intern to assist the Program and Case Managers in providing supportive and emergency services to clients. This internship is an excellent opportunity to work in direct services and to help those who are in need. Responsibilities:
Contact clients regarding program events, opportunities and evaluation.
• Help plan, prepare and market program events.

Qualifications/Requirements:
High school diploma required.
• Currently enrolled in or recently completed a bachelor or graduate degree with a major or related course work in social work, non-profit studies, sociology, humanities, or related field.
• Prior paid or volunteer experience in a non-profit, education or cultural environment a plus.
• Excellent internet research, organization and communication skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and with multiple tasks.
• Computer aptitude with Microsoft Office.
